The name Ranipet means "Place of the Queen". Being separated from Vellore district along with Tirupathur, Ranipet stands as a unique district. The name of the city has a historical significance when King Desingh Raja, 22, was killed in a battle with Nawab Sadatulla Khan of Arcot. According to the cruelty of the customs that existed at that time, the young king's widow committed "Sati" by jumping on her husband's funeral pyre.

In 1771, the Nawab of the Carnatic Sadaul Khan built a city in memory of the young widow of the brave Desing Raja. The Nawab, respecting De Singh's courage and his wife's devotion, built a village near Arcot on the north bank of the Paalar. He named it Ranipet in honor of the young widow who, as a result of tradition, tragically committed suicide.

Being widely significant for historical events, Ranipet welcomes the history lovers with the Arcot fort. Other than that there are famous spiritual sights such as Arulmigu Balamurugan Ratnagiri Tirukkovil, Sripuram Golden Temple, and Vallimalai Subramanyar Temple.

Make your visit to Ranipet interesting by visiting the Amirthi Zoological Park and Ranipet Lake where you can enjoy picnic as these places offers a peaceful ambiance.

These are just some of the best places to visit in Ranipet. The city offers a blend of spirituality, history, and natural beauty that will leave visitors mesmerized.
