Thiruvalluvar Kottam

This Kottam is erected in order to hail the world poet Thiruvalluvar, who penned the great Thirukural. This sublime monument has become one of the getaway places in Chennai; the park adjoining to it makes it more attractive.

Architecture:

39m high chariot, with the effigy of Thiruvalluvar stands majestically in the center of the Kottam. This chariot resembles the typical Hindu temple chariots. The remarkable feature of this fort is that all the 1330 verses of Thirukural are engraved on the granite pillars around the hall and this hall can accommodate about 4000 people. The lions carved in entrance of the fort are yet other enchanting features.

Timings:

Thiruvalluvar Kottam is open on all days from 8 am to 6 pm. The entrance fee is Rs.10 for the adults and Rs 5 for children.
