Mahabalipuaram/Mamallapuram in Chennai is all set to host its maiden edition of the Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival (TNIKF). This colourful event is organized by Global Media Box in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Tamil Nadu. It will take place on 2022 August 13, 14, and 15 at TTDC Ocean view in Mahabalipuram, spread across 14 acres.
Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival will see an eclectic mix of custom kites, crafted by professionals from the USA, Thailand, Malaysia, and India, take to the skies over the mighty Bay of Bengal – truly a must-see! The festival also features loads of food stalls, games, kite-making workshops, and contests for kids, like kid’s fashion shows, etc. The evenings will kick off with live music performances featuring well-known names like Thaikkudam Bridge, Rajesh Vaidya, Nithyashree, Diwakar, Karthick Devaraj, and Kumaran Drums which will surely delight anyone.
The founder of Global Media Box, Benedict Savio, who is organizing this event, says he wants it to be a day of family bonding. “I have attended a number of kite festivals in France, China, Taiwan, Thailand… and I like how it brings the entire family together,” He adds.
Kite enthusiasts from the US, Thailand, Malaysia as well as India are set to participate in this inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu International Kite Festival. As per media reports, a total of 10 teams will be participating with 100 plus kites, made using ripstop nylon.
Kites shaped like Thiruvalluvar and Mahabalipuram Shore Temple will also be there to adorn the beautiful skies of Mahabalipuram near Chennai in Tamilnadu during the festival.
