Dhanushkodi Beach

One of the most serene beach destinations of India is Danushkodi, near Rameshwaram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu and is just at a distance of 18miles from Talaimannar of Sri Lanka. The entire Danushkodi city was engulfed during the Rameshwaram cyclone in the year 1964 and the city has not revived itself fully as inhabited. Still, Danushkodi Beach has been witnessing the influx of tourism in the increasing trend in the recent years. Surrounded by Gulf of Munnar on one side and Bay of Bengal on the other side, Dhanushkodi is a real treasure trove with the remnants since 1964, kindling the interest of history buffs, photo fanatics and for those seeking some offbeat locations.

Beach Highlights :

Gulf of Mannar and Bay of Bengal as the boundaries, the endless blue waters and the gushing waves are the highlights of Dhanushkodi. The remnants of the region which has been untouched for the past fifty years or so is a disheartening site to witness. Unlike the scenario prevailed all these years, Dhanushkodi is very easily accessible with the neatly laid roads approaching to the beach. Though the region was forbidden by the humans all these years, the migratory birds retain their affinity to this region. Flemingoes, gulls and other rare species of birds transform this region a bird sanctuary, indeed.

Things To Do :

Visitng the Pamban island and the Pamban Bridge, Danushkodi temple, submerged ruins across the city are the activities suggested besides strolling along the sandy shore, surfing, swimming and capturing the beautiful moments of sunrise and sunset.
