History of Muttukadu Lake

The earliest historical records of Muttukadu Lake date back to the 16th century, when it was a part of the Pallikaranai Kingdom. The kingdom was ruled by the Pallava dynasty, famous for its architectural and cultural achievements. The lake was an important source of water and fish for local residents and is also used for irrigation purposes. During the British Colonial Period (19th-20th Century) Muttukadu Lake underwent significant changes as they built canals and canals to control the flow of water and create more land for agriculture and settlement. This led to the expansion of the lake boundary and the formation of new rivers such as the Adayar River.
