The Gandhi museum Is one of the must place to visit in the city of Madurai. In the later years of the 19th century, 13 acres of land was gifted to the Tamil Nadu state government for the process of building the museum.The museum is located,is the historic Tamukkam Palace that belonged to Rani Mangammal.She was the queen of Nayak Dynasty

In front of the main building of Museum, you can see a hut which is named Gandhi kutir.This has been created as a replica of the original hut of Mahatma Gandhi in Sevagram.The main aim of this museum is to preach the philosophy and teachings of Gandhi.The bookstall offers various books on the topic of freedom struggle and about the famous freedom fighters.

Lot more benificial activities are conducted at the museum for the benefit of visitors and residents.Different classes which are conducted all day such as self employment classes, yoga classes, Hindi and Sanskrit courses, pranayama and meditation classes.

Occasion of Gandhi jayanti on 2nd October, 5 day program will be organised every year.Speakers,celebrities and artists from all over the country are invited for the festival.

The main attraction of this place is that it displays the last dress (blood-stained garment) Gandhi wore during the time of his death. It also displays the original letters and documents written by Gandhi to Shri Narayanan Sathsangi of Devakottai.
