History of Thousand light Mosque

The Thousand Lights Mosque was built in 1810 by Nawab Umdat-ul-Umrah, the ruler of the Carnatic region. It was built on approximately 1.5 acres of land donated to it by the British East India Company. It is believed that the name "Thousand lights” comes from the fact that the mosque was illuminated with a thousand oil lamps in its early days that gave a stunning visual treat to all the visitors.
