Mount Road Dargah also known as Mount Road Mosque or Mount Road Shrine, is a famous Islamic religious site in Chennai. It is located on the Mount Road, also called as Anna Salai, one of the main and arterial roads of the city. It is dedicated to Dargah-e-Hazrath Syed Moosa Shah Qadri Baghdadi - a revered Sufi saint who lived in the 18th century. He is known for his spiritual teachings and efforts to promote peace and harmony among people of different faiths. The Dargah is a place of worship and pilgrimage for followers of the Sufi sect, a mystical branch of Islam. Mount Road Dargah is famous for its architectural beauty that showcases a blend of Islamic and Dravidian style. The main entrance has a wide arch decorated with intricate carvings and calligraphy whereas the complex has a large courtyard surrounded by prayer rooms and tombs that are considered a main attractions of the Mount Road Dargah. History of Mount Road Dargah

Saints who follow Sufism, a mystical branch of Islam, came to India during ancient period, spreading their teachings and establishing dargahs as places of worship. According to the legend, Baba Fakhruddin Shah was a Sufi saint who came to Chennai from Persia (now Iran) in the 12th century. He is known for his faith, wisdom and magical powers. It is said that he chose the place on Mount Road to build his dargah because of its serene surrounding and spiritual energy in that particular spot.

The speciality about Mount Road Dargah is the central tomb of Hazrat Shahul Hamid Qadiri - an important shrine in the dargah where devotees pray and seek blessings. The annual Urs festival commemorating the death anniversary of Hazrat Shahul Hamid Qadiri is very famous here, where people from all around the world visit here for worship. Mount Road Dargah is also famous for providing people with healing power since the 17th century till date.
