History of Anjaneya Temple in Namakkal

The history of the temple dates back to the 7th century, when it was built by the Pandya kings. It is said that Lord Anjaneya brought the Salakrama Mountain from Nepal and renamed it Namakkal (Where the temple is now today) on the advice of his guru Narasimha Murthy. It is also believed that the idol Hanuman was installed in this temple by the famous saint Sri Vyasaraya.
